Biography

Award winning editor Lisa Grootenboer is an industry staple with three plus decades of experience. She is best known for her work on "The Tudors", "The Borgias", "X Company", "Mary Kills People" and "ANNE with an E", as well as for her live music cutting with Joe Bonamassa and Iron Maiden. Logging over 275 hours of cut screen time, Lisa's CV is filled with notable domestic and international productions.

Her passion is clearly seen in her work.

Most recent projects include 3 seasons of Chucky and IMAX documentary with Dr. Jane Goodall.

I presented this sequence at the 2018 DGC Red Carpet Series and spoke about the editing process for Mary Kills People. I chose this scene because it is mostly executed without words. The footage provided me with an astounding amount of beautiful material and the challenge became about what is the very best these actors have to offer. We dropped some dialogue and let the imagery play. We know through their eyes exactly what is happening and how they're feeling. This scene in particular will affect anyone with a partner. It's very raw and real. Powerful storytelling.

This series means so much to me because of it's capability to start the conversation on such taboo subject matter. People in general have a difficult time discussing these issues and I feel the show has helped to open that dialogue. When I was cutting this scene I became quite teary thinking about my husband, imagining me by his side or he by mine knowing this day will come. A couple of colleagues told me that after the DGC presentation they went straight home and gave their wives a big hug. The dynamism of TV doesn't get any better.

The experience of cutting this series is a gift I will alway cherish.
